Join us on Saturday, May 30, for a screening of "Shoreline Sentinels of Great Salt Lake" at the Utah Film Center. This new, 16-minute film produced by the National Audubon Society recounts the plight of Snowy Plovers, a shorebird that lays its eggs and raises its chicks on the busy shores of Great Salt Lake. Great Salt Lake is home to the largest population of Snowy Plovers in the interior West, but their nesting area overlaps with the most heavily used part of the lake. The National Audubon Society, Tracy Aviary, and a team of their volunteers are studying how recreation impacts the birds and calling attention to a species that most people don’t even realize exists at Great Salt Lake. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the Audubon Society and Tracy Aviary researchers working with Snowy Plovers on the shores of Great Salt Lake. The film "Uncharted Skies: Mapping the Hidden Journeys of Phalaropes" will also be featured.
