A dress-up box. A mandolin. A lamp. A flag. Fabrics, textures, instruments and magical artefacts lead Rhi and Bella into a fantastical pirate adventure. This devised piece will centre an anarchic, DIY discovery of what it means to dream about queer utopia. Prepare for sea-shanties, cross-dressing, drag and dancing under the sea; this will be a swash-buckling tale.A show that approaches future worlds with curiosity.; with pirates as a vehicle to access an anarchistic and DIY way of thinking. Using imaginary play as a metaphor to assist children grappling with an increasingly scary world with issues of climate and family at its centre.
On the company: Bella is a queer, neurodivergent theatre-maker, director and drama facilitator; she has a BA in Drama from the University of Exeter. Currently, she is collaborating with the University of York and Amnesty International on a movement-film ‘BOUND’ that was recently exhibited at Kairos. Rhiannon Bird-Lewis is a queer theatre-maker who trained in Acting at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. They work with community members at the Bristol Old Vic and Tobacco Factory Theatres training people in drama, story-telling and performance. They are a multi-disciplinary martial artist, co-leading women self-defense classes and running Kung-Fu classes for children ages 4-7.
