Join us for a shinty hit about, drills, and a scrimmage. New players welcome! We will have camans (sticks) and balls and will teach you the rules. Bring cleats, shinguards, and water.What is shinty, you ask?
Shinty is a stick and ball game similar to both field hockey and hurling. Called camanachd in Scots Gaelic (the sticks are called camans), the game is very ancient dating back nearly 2,000 years.
Is it easy for new players?
Yes! If you have any field sport experience (soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, etc), you'll find placements, moving around the field, offense and defense quite familiar. The other skills can be picked up relatively easily. And none of us are professionals or too competitive–it's a welcoming and friendly group!
