About this Event
This series of four retreats will focus on the writings of Thomas Merton, an influential Trappist monk of the 20th century. During his famous pilgrimage to Asia, he kept a journal where he scribbled in the margins, "Eckhart is my lifeboat." The 13th-century Dominican mystic Meister Eckhart is known for developing a fourfold spiritual path: the positive way, the negative way, the creative way, and the transformative way. Merton followed in Eckhart's footsteps. Each weekend in this series will consider select writings of Merton corresponding to one of the four paths: Thoughts in Solitude, New Seeds of Contemplation, Fire Watch, and Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander. Each weekend can stand independently, but attending all four will contribute to seeing the breadth of Merton's thought.
