Misha & ShimmyBOOM Bellydance are proud to announce Sarasota's very first Bellydance Festival! And we are kicking it off with an amazing Master Teacher coming to us all the way from Australia! We are excited to welcome Nina Martinez, of Temple Rain Dance and Global Caravan Tribal Bellydance International, for our inaugural event.
Nina is an incredibly beautiful dancer who is based in Innisfail, North Queensland, Australia. One of the very first Global Caravan Master Teachers, Nina brings grace, elegance, and queenly power to her dance, inspiring others to step into their power as beautiful strong dancers. She will be bringing three workshops to the states, sharing her beautiful Temple Rain group improv style as well as Global Caravan. The workshops will include material inspired by, and intended to weave along with, Global Caravan Tribal Bellydance, much of which has never before been taught in the US. Nina is well known for her ability to create community, and has worked as a Master Teacher bringing together dancers from all across Australia and New Zealand for over a decade. Her workshops are more than simply a class where you learn a few moves, they are an entire experience...one that awes, inspires, and emboldens you as a dancer and an artist!
Our festival weekend will also include a performance showcase with theatrical lights and sound, as well as several social opportunities to connect in community outside of the classroom. Misha is aiming to create a retreat experience that is more than just awesome workshops, an entire experience of beautiful Florida that is a bit of a fun vacation too! ;)

Fri May 17: Performance Showcase*
Featuring performers from all over the world, we will gather together to share our beautiful dance artistry. Come join us to inspire, and be inspired too!
*Show performance spaces are reserved for workshop participants. Tickets to the show will be made available closer to the show date.
Sat May 18: Workshops w/ Nina 10 am to 12 pm & 1:30 to 3:30 pm
Workshop 1: Temple Spice
Nina will share her signature Temple Rain movements and concepts, woven in with classic Global Caravan moves. Nina has a treasure trove of gorgeous movements that evoke her personal elegance and style in the dance. In this workshop, she will share some of her favorite Temple Rain movements, expanding your improv vocabulary while challenging your body and mind. Although these ideas are intended for group dance, they also work beautifully for solo dancers of any style looking for graceful, earthy, and elaborate concepts.
Workshop 2: Fans & Skirts
Grab your fans and skirts and get ready to get swishy! In this workshop, Nina will introduce Spanish style folding fan as a prop option for Global Caravan movements and theory. (Some skirts and fans may be available to borrow - please DM us if you are in need)
Sat 4 pm to 6 pm Dinner on Your Own
Sat 6:30 pm - ??? - Siesta Key Beach Party & Drum Circle:
After a day of delightful workshops, and dinner on your own, join us on the beautiful sacred quartz sands of Sarasota's beautiful beaches! We will relax, unwind, have a little impromptu low key no frills dance jam, and enjoy community! Bring your drum, zils, rattles, fans, skirts - whatever you'd like to move in or move with (don't worry we will have plenty of drums to share too!) and let's party! Who knows...there *might* even be a little glow or fire to play with too! This event is *included* in the weekend price...but it is bring your own food/drink <3
Sun May 19: Workshop with Nina 10 am to 1 pm
Circling Together - Bringing everything together with formations, connection and community! An advanced experience - get ready to dance!
Sun After 2 pm - Nature Adventure / Photoshoot Option:
After the close of the workshops, for all those who fancy a little more wild Florida, we will carpool out to one of Misha's favorite nature spaces. Get a chance to see alligators, deer, hawks, eagles, and all sorts of birds as Misha takes you on a tour of the Swamp. We may also have an optional photoshoot at this spot - which may or may not be an additional optional paid event- stay tuned for more details!
* Note: There may be an additional small entrance fee depending upon adventure location (usually $5-$7 per vehicle). This site is about a 30-45 min drive from central Sarasota...if people would like a closer location we may move it closer - location will be chosen closer to the event.
* We will have bellydance vendors selling throughout the workshop too! If you'd like to vend please contact us. *
