The Ent Center at UCCS and the Youth Documentary Academy present a transformative day of film and conversation exploring mental health topics, including breaking barriers, intergenerational trauma, and navigating the challenges of isolation.

REAL FILM
Curated by the UCCS Social Work Club, this event features 2 screening blocks, each showcasing a unique lineup of films that explore similar themes from different perspectives. Both blocks are followed by engaging discussion panels with the filmmakers, faculty from the School of Social Work, and moderated by the director of the Pikes Peak Suicide Prevention Partnership and our Pikes Peak Poet Laureate.
REAL TALK
The dialogue will continue in the Garden of Imagination, an immersive psychedelic nature experience located in the Gallery of Contemporary Art. This unique setting fosters intimate reflection, offering a serene space to deepen the conversations sparked by the films. This event transcends typical film screenings, creating a profound sense of connection through shared experiences and intergenerational dialogue.
CONNECTIONS CORRIDOR
A connections corridor of tables representing academic departments, community groups, and mental health organizations will engage participants throughout the event.

Kareem, a basketball player and music lover, explores modern masculinity through heartfelt conversations with his mom and friends, while embracing the joy of activities like getting pedicures.

Marcus reflects on his identity after his parents gave up custody to his grandmother, uncovering stories of trauma, resilience, and belonging through heartfelt conversations with her and his uncles.
"Out of our Heads"
Shaienne examines the influence of white beauty standards on Black hairstyles, delving into how these pressures shape identity, self-expression, and perceptions of beauty within the Black community.
"Las Hijas"
Allyson, a high-achieving first-generation daughter from Mexico, shares heartfelt conversations with other first-generation daughters about the pressures they place on themselves to succeed and their deep reverence for their parents’ sacrifices.
