About this Event
Shifting Perspectives: a workshop exploring non-binary and trans identities in digital spaces. By Maggie Bain and Leah Kurta.
This workshop is part of the masterclass series run by the Centre for Creative Technologies at University of Galway.
Maggie Bain is an actor, voice actor, movement director, and immersive XR practitioner, with nearly 20 years of expertise in physicality and collaborative storytelling across stage, screen, video games, and the immersive arts.
Leah Kurta is a psychology, design and EDI practitioner. She is Co-Founder of Ida XR Studio, a grassroots community, research and training organisation established to support women, non-binary and trans people in the immersive sector.
This workshop will explore non-binary and trans experiences of the immersive technology sector and question how we can create more nuanced and diverse representations of non-binary and trans identity in immersive content.
Through the lens of biological exuberance, which celebrates nature’s diversity, we will explore the many ways in which rigid and human-centred definitions of nature, sexuality and gender can limit rather than expand our understanding of, and compassion towards gender fluidity.
This is an inclusive and welcoming workshop open to all gender identities. We particularly welcome those who identify as non-binary and/or trans.
