About this Event
Please join KPFA at The Back Room on Monday, March 6th at 7:00 PM when we welcome actress and author Sherry Glaser to perform her show, Intro To Hurstory 101. This live and in-person event will feature Sherry Glaser in conversation with KPFA’s Christina Aanestaad. The evening will also feature a musical performance from co-author Kym Trippsmith.
As the Mad Professor, Sherry Glaser gives a hurstoric hysterical lesson of the presence of women throughout the ages and the Patriarchy's evil plan to silence them through the domination of the Language. Sherry takes the Dick out of Dictionary and re-spells the words to bridge to the Feminine Paradigm enshrined in Mama's 1st Pocket Chicktionary. There will be a quiz.
Born in NYC in 1960, Sherry Glaser had access to Broadway and was brought up to love the Theater. She left New York to attend San Diego State University and at 19 began her career there as an improvisational actress with the group, HOT FLASHES. She then began her solo career with her show, FAMILY SECRETS, where she portrayed her father, mother, grandmother, herself reenacting her homebirth and her angsty teenage self, which was produced off-Broadway in 1995 and became the longest running, award winning, one woman show in its history.
Her other one woman shows include the revolutionary rebirthing of the universe in OH MY GODDESS! (A Comedy of Biblical Proportions) for which she won the Best Avant Garde Award at the 2015 United Solo Festival in NYC
She followed that with THE ADVENTURES OF SUPER ACTIVIST MOTHER – a superhero tale of her radical activism with Breasts not Bombs and TAKING THE HIGH ROAD (Comic Confessions from behind the Cannabis Curtain) which hilariously chronicled her time as the owner of the First Medical Marijuana dispensary in the Village of Mendocino.
Her Latest work, Intro to Hurstory 101 is her respelling of the English language to include and elevate women into the lexicon and a preview of her latest book, The Pocket Chicktionary, Taking the Dick out of Dicktionary.
Sherry is famous for converting her true life stories into high political theater. Sherry published her memoir FAMILY SECRETS with Simon and Schuster and has been a featured writer in a number of anthologies. Sherry teaches workshops in emotional alchemy and improvisation. She is also a dramaturg and helps develop and direct other female solo performers works. Her Podcast is The World According to Sherry Glaser on Spotify and other platforms.
Sherry Glaser is both Actress and Author. Her one woman shows are legendary, her political activism scandalous, her literary accomplishments impressive. She has been a champion of the feminine for her entire life and has used her artistic voice to promote, highlight, reclaim and recall the power of the Mother.
Christina Aanestad is the morning news anchor at KPFA and helps produce the station's International Women's Day special broadcast. Her work has been featured around the globe on Deutsche Welles Radio, Radio India, NPR, Free Speech Radio News, the Environment Report and High Times.
