SheRISES
About this Event
Addiction does not only happen in other families, workplaces, or neighbourhoods. It affects people from every background and every walk of life.
SheRISES is an awareness and fundraising event that brings women’s experiences of addiction and recovery into the light. Through powerful stories of courage, loss, resilience, and hope, the event challenges stigma and reminds us that addiction may be closer than we realize.
Women in Calgary and across Alberta face distinct barriers when seeking recovery support. Gender based violence, discrimination, caregiving responsibilities, limited perinatal and postnatal services, financial barriers, societal expectations, and persistent stereotypes can make it more difficult to access treatment and rebuild their lives.
SheRISES brings our community together to:
• Raise awareness about addiction across all social and economic backgrounds
• Challenge the stigma surrounding addiction and recovery
• Highlight the unique barriers faced by women and mothers
• Support women and their children in accessing recovery services
• Celebrate the strength, courage, and possibility of recovery
Your participation helps support women and their children through Alcove Addiction Recovery for Women and Recovery Acres Calgary Society, the co-hosts of this event, and contributes to a community where every woman has the opportunity to rise.
Recovery is possible. Together, we can help more women find their way.
