Sheffield Urban Art: Women-Only Photography Walk

Sheffield is packed with colour, creativity and unexpected artwork, from huge murals to tiny details tucked away on side streets.

Join us for a women-only photography walk exploring Sheffield’s urban art scene, with plenty of opportunities to photograph bold colour, interesting textures, graphic shapes and the stories hidden in the city streets.

This is about more than simply photographing the artwork. We’ll explore how you photograph it: looking at composition, perspective, colour, detail and the relationship between the artwork and its surroundings.

As we walk, we’ll look for:

• Murals and large-scale street art
• Colour, contrast and bold graphic shapes
• Interesting textures and urban details
• How the surrounding buildings and streets change the way an artwork feels
• Different ways to frame and crop the same piece
• Using people, shadows and passing moments to add context
• Finding smaller pieces of art that are easy to walk straight past

There’ll also be some fun photographic challenges along the way to get you experimenting and looking at Sheffield in a different way.

This is a women-only photography walk open to all abilities.

Whether you're new to photography, getting back into it, or already have plenty of experience, you’re welcome.

Bring a DSLR, mirrorless camera, compact camera or phone. The emphasis is on seeing, experimenting and enjoying photography, rather than having the fanciest kit.

We’ll be walking through the city, stopping regularly to photograph, so keep your kit manageable.

Focus On… Women events are relaxed, supportive spaces where women can explore photography, share ideas and enjoy being creative together.

There’s no pressure to be technically perfect or to produce a particular kind of photograph. Come along, have a wander, try some new ideas and see what catches your eye.
