Tea and Coffee will be available from 17:00 with an anticipated start to proceedings at 17:30. The seminar will then have a short introduction from Peter Sephton followed by a presentation from Sean Mc Clean discussing the following questions.
There are now 25,000 people living in the City Centre with an estimate of 35,000 by 2030. There are many questions that need to be asked and answered. The following is not an exhaustive list.
a. What is the effect of this strategy on the character of the City Centre?
b. Is residential accommodation the way to revitalise the traditional centre?
c. Will it bring back John Lewis?
d. Will it fill all the retail units?
e. Will it be full of students for just 8 months of the year?
f. Will the developments being built attract a cross-section of society?
g. Will the new offices be in demand, post-Covid?
h. Will they be a magnet for people to live in the city centre?
i. Will outlying residents who have left for Meadowhall, Chesterfield and other shopping experiences, want to return?
j. What are the experiences of other urban centres that have used this residential strategy?
There will be a short AGM following the seminar for people who want to stay
