SHE SAID
⭐ The Venue Presents: She Said with Anne Harris, a quarterly music series featuring performances and conversation with extraordinary women musicians. The second in the series will be on Saturday, December 21 featuring Cathy Richardson.
Join host and series curator Anne Harris and journey into the creative processes and lives of some of the most intriguing women making music you’ll encounter. Their stories and their songs will inspire and expand you in powerful ways. Our stories are medicine.
CATHY RICHARDSON
⭐ A childhood obsession with the band Heart caused a young Cathy Richardson to pick up a guitar and start wailing like a banshee, igniting a storybook rock n' roll adventure where she found herself inextricably entwined in the music of Rock's original Queens, Janis Joplin and Grace Slick.
Richardson was writing music and fronting her own band around the Midwest for most of the 90s until being cast as Janis Joplin in the Off Broadway hit musical biopic Love, Janis.
Richardson channeled the late, great Joplin to rave reviews in Chicago, New York and other cities including San Francisco, where she was invited to sing with Joplin’s original band members in Big Brother and the Holding Co. on a national tour in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the Summer of Love.
On that tour, she met the members of Jefferson Starship who quickly recruited her to join their band, where she remains as lead singer today.
And when Jefferson Airplane won their GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016, the long-retired Grace Slick insisted that Richardson sing in her place.
ANNE HARRIS
⭐ Anne Harris is a roots and blues fiddle player and singer-songwriter based in Chicago. Harris tells stories through her fiddle and through her voice.
