Iranian immigrant and mother Shayda (Zar Amir Ebrahimi) and her young daughter seek refuge in a women’s shelter during Persian New Year. A bold new film from Iranian-Australian writer-director Noora Niasari (with Cate Blanchett as Executive Producer), Shayda presents both a compelling depiction of the effects of family violence, and a tender portrait of culture and motherhood.
This recent release won the 2023 Sundance Audience Award and won the Best Director prize at the Australian Directors Guild Awards.
