Weather Report was one of the groundbreaking jazz rock/fusion bands of the 20th century. Founded in 1970 by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, the group blended jazz with rock, funk, and global influences, constantly evolving their sound. With the addition of Jaco Pastorius in the late ’70s, they crafted iconic albums like Heavy Weather and Black Market, featuring classics such as “Birdland” and “Teen Town.”
Known for their collective approach to improvisation, Weather Report prioritized texture and groove over traditional soloing, creating a dynamic and immersive sound. Their fearless innovation and genre-defying artistry continue to inspire musicians today, making their legacy one of the most enduring in jazz history.
Pianist and composer Shawn McGowan has built a dynamic career as a performer, educator, and author.
