About this Event
Your knives deserve better. And honestly… so do you.
Join us at Vine 32 for a hands-on Knife Sharpening 101 workshop where you’ll learn how to properly sharpen your kitchen knives using Japanese waterstones—yes, the real deal.
This is not a sit-back-and-watch kind of class. You’ll be working on your own knives with step-by-step guidance, learning the techniques that take your blades from “struggling” to chef’s kiss.
Bring up to two non-serrated knives from home and leave with them actually sharp (what a concept). If one needs a little extra love beyond class time, it will be professionally finished and returned to you—no extra charge.
What You’ll Learn:
🔪 How to hold and stabilize your knife properly
🔪 How to find and maintain the right sharpening angle
🔪 How to raise and recognize a burr (yes, it’s a thing)
🔪 How to refine and finish your edge
🔪 The difference between blade types + edge styles
🔪 How to maintain your knives so they don’t betray you again
This class is designed for beginners, home cooks, knife enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to confidently maintain their own blades. No prior experience is required!
Food and beverage available for purchase.
About the Instructor
Alex Roy, founder of Alex Roy Cutlery & Tool, is a mechanical engineer and lifelong metalworker who approaches knife sharpening as both functional skill and refined craft. His work lives at the intersection of form and function. A knife should not only perform well, it should feel right in the hand and reflect thoughtful design. His teaching focuses on understanding how steel responds to angle, pressure, and repetition so that sharpening becomes a repeatable skill rather than a mystery.
