About this Event

Hungry Ghost Festival: An Evening of Community, Grief, and Memory

What do we owe our dead... and each other?
Join Theatre Diaspora for an afternoon of original theatre, community gathering, and shared remembrance in honor of the Hungry Ghost Festival, a time in many Asian communities when the boundary between the living and the ancestors grows thin.
The afternoon will open with a contextual talk by Bea Yeh, introducing the history, cultural meaning, and traditions of the Hungry Ghost Festival. Then we will share new short plays written by local AAPI playwrights and our Community Profile writing cohort. Framed by verdant trees and lush foliage, stories will unfold where the natural world holds space for the stories we carry.

A community altar anchors the space, so feel free to bring flowers, fruit, and offerings.Tents and chairs are provided for elders.
