Sharanagati by Aruna Mohanty & Night of Two Legend

An evening where Odissi and Kathak take centre stage, this double bill unites Dr. Aruna Mohanty and Guru Shovana Narayan in a vibrant celebration of Indian classical dance, devotion, and storytelling. 

Celebrate the transformative power of Indian classical dance with an evening that brings Odissi and Kathak to the fore, featuring the celebrated artistry of Dr. Aruna Mohanty and Padma Shri Guru Shovana Narayan. 

The program opens with Sharanagati, an Odissi ensemble work choreographed by Dr. Aruna Mohanty, renowned for her expressive storytelling and mastery of the form. Presented by the acclaimed Orissa Dance Academy, Sharanagati journeys through devotion and surrender, beginning with a powerful homage to Shiva as Nataraja, blossoming into the lyrical beauty of Pallavi, and culminating in a moving interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita’s eternal wisdom. Through intricate choreography, evocative music, and visual splendour, the performance explores themes of creation, dissolution, and the soul’s quest for meaning. 

The evening continues with Night of Two Legends, where Kathak maestro Shovana Narayan pays tribute to the golden voice of Talat Mahmood, weaving together dance, nostalgia, and iconic melodies. Guided by the live narration of author and biographer Sahar Zaman, this segment offers a rare confluence of cinema and classical tradition as timeless songs and graceful movement evoke the splendour of a bygone era. 

Together, these two performances promise an immersive journey through India’s rich cultural legacy, offering audiences a singular experience of music, movement, and memory brought to life by some of the country’s most acclaimed artists.
