About this Event
As we continue to move through this era and Age of Aquarius, we know we must prioritize our collective survival, healing, liberation, and thriving. We have the tools, when we align with and stand in Spirit, to learn from our past and shape our present and our future. Sankofa. When we understand our interconnections and interdependence, we have the power to shape change. Ubuntu.
This Shape Change Gala is for our joy and our blessing! It is an opportunity for us to step into our communal calling to create and build the world that we and our descendents need. We will celebrate and honor some of our incredible teachers, learn more about Land Based Jawns, and enjoy intentionally curated dishes of the diaspora.
The Gala will be held on Friday, September 19th at Awbury Arboretum. This Spirit-led affair will feature live music, poetry, and dance. Attendees will journey through sensory and elemental experiences and rituals involving fire, earth, air, and water. Come adorned in outfits or costumes that embody what you believe it means to Shape Change. We especially appreciate earthy, floral, cosmic, and ethereal elements.
Throughout the space, guests will find spi(ritual) stations emphasizing the importance of self-healing practices such as breath work, mirror work, and ancestral healing. Our silent auction is intentionally tailored for the times we're living in and will include items such as go-bag workshops, private dinners, self-defense lessons, herbal medicines, and more.
Not only will we receive words of wisdom from our keynote speaker Dara Cooper, Afrofuturist DJ and co-founder of National Black Food and Justice Alliance, but we will also be graced with performances from Trapeta B. Mayson, Reverend Rhetta, and Deaconess Dr. Shanae Burch. Our honorees for the evening are some of Land Based Jawns original teachers and mentors and include Chris Bolden-Newsome of Sankofa Community Farm, Kirtrina Baxter of 4DaSoil and Black Dirt Farm Collective, and Tien Sydnor-Campbell of BodyMind Consulting.
What are we fundraising for?
We have some big dreams and hopes to 1) secure land and space to grow, 2) host a fourth Earthseed Skillshare, and 3) evolve and expand Land Based Jawns educational offerings. To do so, our initial goal is to raise $500,000. Can we shape change together? Will you eat, dance, dream, and build with us? Join us as we lean into our joy and celebration.
NOTE - all tickets include food, drinks, and vibes!
