About this Event

Join Teresa Caliari on Sunday, September 27 at 1 PM as we explore the creative side of the lives of the retired sailors at Snug Harbor. The administration of Snug Harbor encouraged residents to stay busy with artistic pursuits and even sell their handmade crafts. As part of this program, some residents made ceramic pieces. You'll be able to tour the Noble Maritime Collection and see some of these pieces firsthand, as well as ceramic artifacts from John Noble’s home that are not typically on display and are rarely seen by the public. During the tour, you'll get to learn about the creation process and the stories these functional objects tell. Next, you'll have the chance to make your own ceramic piece to take home, inspired by the sailors' art. After, join Alyssa Rowan from Mrs. Rosemary’s Dance Studio for a sea-themed dance lesson.

This workshop is FREE. We ask that you consider giving a donation to the museum.

This workshop is made possible by a DCLA Art Fund Grant from Staten Island Arts, with public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
