On Sunday, Dec. 21 from 2-5 p.m., the Hampden District Attorney’s Office will host its second Forensic Investigative Genealogy (FIGG) Drive for Shana Renee Price, whose 1990 murder remains unresolved. The FIGG Drive will take place during the Springfield United Toy Drive & Holiday Celebration at the MassMutual Center.
FIGG combines DNA analysis with genealogical research to identify distant relatives of unknown suspects, even when no match exists in CODIS, the national law enforcement DNA database. This breakthrough technology has proven to be a powerful tool in advancing unsolved cases.
It has been 35 years since 17-year-old Shana Price was murdered in Blunt Park. Since her death, investigators have had a DNA profile connected to her homicide, but no matches have been found in law enforcement databases. In 2022, a composite sketch was released offering new insight, yet the case remains unresolved. By leveraging FIGG, investigators are hoping to uncover new leads to bring closure to her family.
