Ali Shamsie is bravely fighting rhabdomyosarcoma for the fourth time in his 28 years of life. Ali’s journey with this aggressive cancer began at just 14 years old. He has been under the care and treatment of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital since then. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation at 14 and went into remission for 4 years. At age18, this horrible cancer returned. He bravely went through chemotherapy and radiation for a second time with the care and support of St. Jude’s Hospital. He went into remission again. Ali then met the love of his life, Sydni and they married. Due to all his treatments, this young couple are unable to conceive children. They continue to lean on each other through all the hurdles they are faced with. Ali’s remission lasted for 6 years, only to have another recurrence at 24 years old. At this time, because of his age, he was referred to an adult hospital in Memphis through St. Jude’s. Ali underwent chemotherapy and radiation for a third time. He also at this time had a very extensive surgery in which the tumor was removed, and he had extensive repairs to his palate. Recovery time was very long. Despite all he has endured, Ali continues to fight with strength, dignity, faith and lifestyle changes. Now, at the young age of 28, the cancer has returned for a fourth time. Ali was referred to a team in Baton Rouge through St. Jude’s for chemotherapy. He underwent 2 rounds and was supposed to have another surgery scheduled in Shreveport, LA only to have it postponed due to weather. The team all agreed the chemo was working and the tumor had shrunk in size. They agreed on 2 more rounds of chemo to have more success before rescheduling the surgery. After one of those rounds, he was told the cancer was incurable and would be terminal. He could continue if he wanted to but, it wasn’t recommended. He was also told surgery was very risky and he should reconsider as they could not guarantee the outcome. Ali and his wife Sydni have been researching every possible avenue for additional treatment and hope. They are both passionate about holistic approaches and believe in the body’s natural resources for healing. We all refuse to give up.
While his spirit is unbreakable, the reality of being out of work for treatment and the mounting costs of specialized care are heavy burdens. This benefit is about providing Ali and Sydni the financial peace of mind to focus entirely on his healing.
Thank you for standing with Ali in the fight of his life!
