SHAMIN is an experimental jazz duo based in Brisbane, Australia. The group formed off the back of a recording session for Martin Kay’s Forage and explores original composition, unconventional rhythm and timbre drawing influence from Matt Mitchell, David Binney, Dan Weiss, Mark Guiliana, Kate Gentile, Vijay Iyer and Tyshawn Sorey to list a few.
Comprised of Sophie Min and Benjamin Shannon, SHAMIN was established in 2018 and released their debut album ‘Fine Gnaw’ in April 2019 to local and international acclaim. The duo has a penchant for irregular form, rhythm and rich harmony juxtaposed against expansive improvisational passages and extended techniques. SHAMIN have performed at venues around Australia including the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, Sydney Women’s International Jazz Festival, Jazzlab, Bohemian Grove, JMI and The Junk Bar. The band was recently shortlisted for the 2023 Art Music Awards in the Performance of the Year Jazz and Improvised Music Category.

Steve Barry Quartet
Fresh off some time in Japan, Vietnam, Spain and Morocco, Barry presents a set of new music drawing on muses from trail running to urban systems and the magical realism of Italo Calvino and Isabelle Allende.
Hailed by Loudmouth Magazine as “one of Australia’s most inventive and accomplished composer/improvisers”, Dr Steve Barry is the Program Leader for Jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Barry’s 2023 album In the Waves featuring Eric Harland and Will Vinson was awarded 4.5 stars in the Weekend Australian, and praised by the Sydney Morning Herald as “...the finest instalment to date of the pianist’s bristling musical intelligence, rhythmic mutability, melodic flair and compositional gifts.”
