About this Event
Step back into the sights, sounds, and stories of Elizabethan London on this lively and revealing walking tour—part history, part detective story, and part love letter to the world’s most influential playwright.
This 90-minute, fun-filled tour is a crash course in William Shakespeare: who he was, what we know for certain, what we believe, and what still fuels debate today. Expect great trivia, intriguing authorship discussions, and the stories behind the stories that shaped his life and work.
We begin at Blackfriars Underground and wind our way through hidden alleys of the old City of London, tracing Shakespeare’s footsteps through places he knew, visited, or was directly connected to, including:
• The Blackfriars Gatehouse – controversy, faith, and final years
• The Bell Tavern – meeting place of minds
• The College of Arms – status, ambition, and legacy
• St Paul’s Cathedral – London’s beating heart (a church until 1666)
• Tate Modern & the Millennium Bridge – where past and present collide
• The South Bank – the site of the original Globe Theatre and others nearby
• Shakespeare’s Globe – ending at Sam Wanamaker’s epic 1997 reconstruction
Along the way, we’ll explore Shakespeare’s family life, friendships, rivals, and working world. We’ll talk about creative licence in films like Hamnet and Shakespeare in Love, and trace his extraordinary legacy across architecture, industry, film, television, radio—and even video games.
And woven through it all is the story of two men:
William Shakespeare, who changed storytelling forever…
and Sam Wanamaker, who ensured his legacy could be experienced live once more.
Your guide is Gerard from Curious Tales and Tours—a professional actor for over 25 years, with a dual career as a performer and guide. Having worked extensively in theatre, Gerard brings Shakespeare’s world to life with clarity, humour, and a performer’s instinct. There’s probably no better guide for this kind of tour.
Perfect for tourists, students, families, theatre lovers, and curious minds of all ages.
Entertaining, insightful, and absolutely worth the ticket price.
Whether you’re new to Shakespeare or think you already know him—this tour will surprise you.
Come curious. Leave enchanted.
