All the way from Canada we have Thine/Thee/Tha/Thu Retail Simp$, having released a handful of critically acclaimed LP's on the Total Punk record label, the Simps describe themselves thus: What if the Velvet Underground had written ‘Wooly Bully’ and Sam The Sham ‘Sister Ray?' If Ron House picked up some bongos and joined CCR or If Half Japanese and Hasil Adkins started a Meters cover band? This is the scrap yard of the Retail Simp's mind. Short on practice and high on ideas, thee Retail Simple Tones are 4 well traveled and unraveled individuals, bound by a musical adventure. We'd also add that they are responsible for writing one of the best songs, ever - Weapon Of The Mystic, a song so other worldly your hairs on the back of your neck will do the dance of the Ju-Ju!Next up we have Brit punk oldies The Real Losers. Fresh from having their 2003 debut LP released on Total Punk Records (Portland, OR) and getting over to the U.S of A to play live - the Real Losers are having a last hurrah, playing all the hits and misses as best they can.
From their inception in 1999, through to their demise is 2005, the Real Losers played an uncomprimising blown out noise, rooted in their love for bands like Real Kids, Bobbyteens, Teengenerate, Dictators and other musical miscreants. Expect songs from Time To Lose, Music For Funsters and 2024's Total Punk comp - Good Clean Fun. Alright!
From Leeds we proudly present - Nape Neck. A fine trio making fine noise playing post-punk that’s simultaneously tangled and taut, danceable and destructed, all while resisting any attempts to be easily situated as the latest addition to a specific geographic and genre-based continuum that stretches back to Gang of Four and Delta 5.
Nape Neck’s knotted rhythms and the intersecting/overlapping vocal shouts from all three band members bring to mind Scissor Girls or Erase Errata, who also drew inspiration from the spiky tension of first wave UK post-punk and translated it through the more wild and free tendencies of DNA-descended downtown art-noise. Clipped morse code rhythms and sharply punctuated lyrical declarations join forces with delirious, snaking guitar and duelling vocals which push against steady bass throb and stark, calculated beats as Nape Neck walk the tightrope between chaos and calm.
And last but by no means least - from Glasgow there's Dragged Up! And to quote: "Glasgow art-punks riding a relentless wave of restless creativity and blessed with a punishing knack for chaos and groove" We can't argue with that!
