Ok. So whats this all about you must be asking. If you are, then at least we have your attention. So let us unravel this event in detail.
This event is run purely by the Friends Of The South African Air Force Museum (the passionate volunteers who run the museum every single Saturday)
WHAT: The Final Shackleton Ground Run For 2024.
WHERE: Ysterplaat Air Force Base, Piet Grobler Street, Ysterplaat, Cape Town
WHEN: 9.30 Am Saturday 7th December 2024.
WHY: Because it keeps our South African Air Force history and heritage alive, we really please do need your support for this worthy cause.
Next year is a very big year for our Shackleton Aircraft and we need every donation possible as it's going to cost a tidy sum. She is our pride and joy and is really an iconic aircraft. Such incredible history she has and we must let her continue to educate us.
She will be getting a complete paint makeover to get her looking like the day she rolled off the production line in 1954. Maybe even better. Her engines will be going through some serious servicing so we make sure she is ready to "woo" crowds for many more years to come. With your help Cape Town and visitors, we can accomplish this incredibly tough task.
So here's the kicker..... We normally just ask for a small donation of around R50 per person visiting on a Ground Run Day. This time we doing something extra. Over and above gets you closer to a really cool prize.
We going to do a raffle on the day after the Ground Run back at the museum. There is one prize and that is to the value of R2500. So the more you donate, the more tickets you get. As simple as that.
So let's now chat about December 7th. First and foremost.
Please Try Be There By 9.30 Sharp!
It takes a while to get a thousand plus people parked, signed in and through to the gathering point. Come early and enjoy a barista cuppa or even a boerie breakfast before we take the walk to the sounds of silence. That is actually actually true as you not going to hear anything else but 4 x 2450hp of pure magic, guaranteed to give you goose bumps and very few words. Smiles or tears would be my guess.
Our famous German boerewors rolls and delicious genuine hamburgers will once again be on sale with plenty of other snacks, thirst quenchers, adult beverages as well as lots of memorabilia and YES we do have card machines too!
Our 2 main stakeholders, Stettyn Family Vineyards and the Shackleton Brewing Company will be there in full force to entice you to taste and purchase Award Winning Wines and some Awesome Craft Beer. I can assure you, you won't be disappointed. Goes very well with our boeries and hamburgers. ?
Jumping castle's, face painting and other fun things for the kids will be on hand to keep the Mom's and Dad's smiling. Oh yes and our fire trucks will also be there for everyone to check out.
So why not "Wing your Way" down to the SAAF Museum on Saturday 7th of December. Wannabe pilots and Bucket Lists that need completing is where you should be.
You will be welcomed by our parking attendants showing you where to park and where to go. Then you will be directed to the sign in tables and to get your raffle tickets. Remember the more you donate, the more tickets you get.
Think, that's about it for now. I hope I have spiked your interest and going to block off your diary for the morning of the 7th. We look forward to meeting you all and hope you enjoy your time with us.
Until then, please keep well and stay safe. Ciao for now.
