SFEMF announces dates and artists for its 23rd Annual Festival dedicated to groundbreaking electronic music. In a co-production with The Lab and Audium, and with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute and Villa Albertine, SFEMF presents four nights of live electronic performances featuring a diverse cadre of internationally renowned and emerging creators. The work ranges from explorations of brainwaves, intricate piano etudes with an electronic twist, and late night SF-inspired musique concrète, to enhanced human bodies as extended instruments.

AMANDA CHAUDHARY is a composer, bandleader, electronic musician, jazz keyboardist, and visual/sound artist. She blends experimental electronic sounds with jazz, funk, dance music and other idiomatic styles into her visually captivating performances. Amanda has performed, recorded, or collaborated with such diverse artists as Amy X Neuburg, G Calvin Weston, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Rent Romus, Tom Djll, Moe! Staiano, Vacuum Tree Head, and David Wessel. She is also the author of the popular video channel CatSynth TV, where she discusses music, art, culture, and, of course, cats.

The collaborative work of PEDESTRIAN DEPOSIT—Shannon A. Kennedy and J. Borges—is best described as visceral and narrative; highly composed, often abstract sound textures informed by elements of experimental sound, harsh noise, musique concrète, neo-classical, dark ambient and performance art—but is not beholden to any one genre. Borges’ crude yet disciplined electronics and controlled feedback manipulation contrasts Shannon’s self-designed, physically activated sculptural instruments and extended bowing techniques, resulting in music that is both raw and refined. In a live context, the duo places an emphasis on the development and evolution of physical, psychological and organic live performance.

VICTORIA SHEN (EVICSHEN) is a sound artist based in San Francisco. Shen's sound practice is concerned with the spatiality/physicality of sound and its relationship to the human body. Her personal identity—her body—is the space her work utilizes to restructure sonic meaning. The appendage-like instruments she makes exemplify Shen’s interest in the tension created by opposition: control and chaos, the unique and the mass produced, the practical and the absurd. Shen’s multimedia practice extends to include installation and sculpture. Notably, Shen pioneered the use of Needle Nails, acrylic nails with embedded turntable styluses, which allow her to play up to five tracks of a record simultaneously.
