Journalists on Independence, Platforms & Access
About this Event

Kick off spring with an essential conversation about the future of tech media!

Join Axicom and PRSA-San Francisco for an evening of candid insight as we bring together local tech media voices to discuss how the media landscape is shifting in real time and what it means for communicators.

San Francisco sits at the center of the tech universe, and the journalists covering this beat are navigating unprecedented change: the rise of independent media and Substack newsletters, the shift to podcasts and video content, and new expectations around credibility and access. From legacy newsrooms like The Financial Times to emerging indie platforms like TechVoices, each voice at the table brings a unique perspective on what content means in 2026.

Whether you're pitching a startup, positioning an enterprise client, or building media relationships in a fragmented landscape, this panel gives you practical insight into what journalists value, how their roles are changing, and how PR professionals can show up as better partners, including at the events that are becoming key touchpoints for both sides. You'll hear directly from reporters about their beats, their platform choices, and what makes a pitch (or an event) worth their time.

Featured Guests

Don Clark is a freelance technology journalist and a longtime contributor to The New York Times. He covers enterprise technology, semiconductors, and the companies shaping Silicon Valley's infrastructure.

Jasmine Sun writes jasmi.news, a Substack newsletter covering AI and Silicon Valley culture, and is a contributing writer at The Atlantic. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Business Insider, and she co-founded Reboot, a nonprofit publication reimagining techno-optimism.

Yifan Yu is a tech reporter for Nikkei Asia and its sister publication the Financial Times, as well as a contributor to Dow Jones. She reports on the U.S.-Asia tech dynamics, cross-border innovation, and the global reach of Silicon Valley companies.

James Maguire is the executive director of TechVoices and former editor at eWEEK. He focuses on amplifying independent voices in technology journalism and helping communicators understand the evolving role of editorial platforms.
