Portland All Nations Canoe Family invites you to our next Sewing Together class, taught by Ach' Davis, when we will learn together how to sew Kuspuks.
A Kuspuk is a non-gender specific traditional garment worn by many Alaska Native peoples. They are usually hooded, can be worn alone or over a parka, and can include a variety of personalization such as favorite/family colors, a skirt, or other traditional adornments such as fur or beadwork. A Kuspuk is both a practical and a cultural piece of clothing, and is sometimes worn as regalia for Native peoples. We are thrilled to host our community and provide space for Ach' to share her knowledge and teachings.
These garments are often associated with Yup'ik traditions, however today they are loved and worn by people from many backgrounds (Native and non-Native alike!). Please feel welcome and register below. Additional questions can be emailed to [email protected].
