Sewing & Mending Workshop with EcoShip

is a Chicago 501(c)(3) nonprofit that diverts packaging materials and donates them back to the community. We host workshops and community events to build relationships and encourage hyper-local initiatives.

Details: Come sew with us at our new space in Avondale! This is an open workshop environment. Want to sew some simple projects out of upcycled materials? Learn how to sew easy (unpaper towels, reusable makeup remover pads) or intermediate sustainable projects (produce bags, scrunchie)! Already an experienced sewist? You can meet others who combine a love of sewing with a love of sustainability. Have a simple clothing repair? We can help with that, too!

What is included in your ticket price: Light refreshments, access to sewing supplies such as thread, needles, and fabric, and access to a positive environment where you can learn or practice your skills. If you want to bring your own fabric to work with, please do! We recommend bringing old T shirts and old cotton material (like an old bedsheet or dress shirt) because it's easy to cut and sew.

Sewing machines: We have two sewing machines available onsite. If you would like to bring your own, please do! Most projects will be sewn by hand.

Arrival/Parking: There is paid street parking on Pulaski Rd, corner of School St, and corner of Melrose St. There is free street parking further west on both School St and Melrose St. If you are taking public transit, we are located off of Belmont (77), Milwaukee (56), and the Irving Park Blue line.
