About this Event
Instructor - Helena Romanovsky
Helena has been in the apparel manufacturing business for over 40 years. Entering the field as a sample maker, she worked her way up to designing technical apparel patterns for Brands like Susan Bristol, J.Jill, Brass Clothing, Bennett & Co, and Sterlingwear of Boston. She has been teaching technical pattern-making since 2012. In her spare time, she quilts, paints watercolors, and is an extreme gardener.
Class Description
To take sewing 201, student should have completed Sewing 101, or be an experienced sewer.
Students will customize the pattern to create a gift of their choice-Christmas sock, fabric coasters, oven mittens, pet placemat, apron, table runner, placemats, baskets, and more.
Participants will learn new skills, like different seams constructions, use of interfacings and applique techniques. We will add personal touches and varies details to make your gift special.
Taking this class will leave you with the knowledge to use in your next sewing project and some gifts to spread cheers.
Material Fee
The materials fee for this class is $35. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of class . This instructor accepts payments in cash or through Venmo.
Class Goals
Participants will learn to
• Use and customize the pattern to create a gift of their choice-Christmas sock, fabric coasters, oven mittens, pet placemat, apron, table runner, placemats, baskets, and more.
• Learn different assembly constructions and apply the best one for the project
• Understand cutting techniques and use the right one for the project
• Will be able to repeat this project again independently
• The goal of this class is to provide students with the confidence to create their own projects from start to finish.

Materials for the project, pattern, and expertise.
Students Should Bring
Basic Tools needed
• Good fabric shears
• Paper scissors
• Thread snippers
• Pins and clips
• Pin holder (Magnetic is the safest choice)
• Safety pins
• Seam ripper
• Tape measure
• Clear plastic ruler
• FriXion Pen or other heat erasable pen
• Pencil, paper pad, eraser
• Tailors Chalk
• Thimble
• Wrist pin cushion
If you don’t own these tools, do not worry. You will be able to purchase any tools you are missing or buy a kit with most needed tools. The cost of this kit is $40.00.
Prerequisites
Students must be 16 years or older. Students under 18 must be accompanied by and under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.
Students should wear closed toe shoes. No flip-flops. Wear clothes that cannot get caught in the equipment. Wearing apron is preferred.
To take sewing 201, student should have completed Sewing 101, or be an experienced sewer.
