About this Event

Welcome to SewCulture

Ready to take your sewing skills into alterations?

The SewCulture Beginner Alterations Workshop is a small, hands-on class designed for creators who already have basic sewing and clothing construction experience and are ready to begin learning how garments are altered.

Using jeans, trousers or pants, we’ll introduce you to the process of evaluating a garment, determining what needs to change and approaching basic alterations with greater confidence.

With only 4 creators in the workshop, you’ll receive hands-on guidance and plenty of opportunities to ask questions as you work.

🧵 During Class, You’ll Learn How To:

✂️ Properly measure and mark a garment for alterations
👖 Learn techniques for hemming jeans, trousers or pants
📏 Explore basic waist adjustment techniques
🪡 Learn simple garment repair techniques
⚙️ Use a sewing machine specifically for alteration work
✨ Understand how to evaluate an alteration before cutting or sewing

👖 What to Bring

Please bring ONE pair of jeans, trousers or pants that you would like to work with during class.

Choose a garment you’re comfortable practicing on. We recommend not bringing an expensive, sentimental or irreplaceable garment to your first alterations workshop.

SewCulture will provide sewing machines and the basic tools and supplies needed during class.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop is designed for creators who already have basic sewing experience and some familiarity with clothing construction and are ready to begin learning alterations.

You should be comfortable:

🧵 Threading and operating a sewing machine
✂️ Sewing straight seams and backstitching
👕 Understanding basic garment construction
📏 Following basic sewing instructions independently

No previous alterations experience is required.

⚠️ Please note: This workshop is not designed as an introduction to sewing. If you have never used a sewing machine before, we recommend starting with a SewCulture Beginner Sewing Workshop and continuing to build your sewing skills before moving into alterations.

Small Class. Hands-On Guidance. Real Skills.

This workshop is intentionally limited to 4 creators so Wil and Herschel can spend time working directly with each participant.

Our goal isn’t to rush through as many techniques as possible. We want you to leave with a better understanding of how alterations work, how to approach them and how to continue developing your skills through practice.

Workshop investment: $60 per creator
