About this Event
Instructor - Mariko Sugimori
Mariko started her love of fiber arts as a child sewing doll clothes on her mom’s vintage Singer sewing machine and learning to knit at her local yarn store. Her creative visible mending journey is partly inspired by her Japanese father instilling the concept of Mottainai, which roughly translates to “what a waste.” It’s a phrase commonly used to express regret of throwing something away when it still holds value.
Class Description
Join visible mending instructor, Mariko Sugimori, of www.monazoemending.com for a special one-day workshop.
Create Your Own Handmade Needle Book – A Sustainable Crafting Experience!
If you have some hand-stitching experience and love working with fabric, this class is the perfect opportunity to get creative! You’ll learn how to craft a beautiful and functional needle book from leftover fabric scraps and notions—turning simple materials into a practical tool for your sewing kit. Needle books are the perfect way to organize and store all your essential tools, from needles to thread, and are a charming addition to any crafter’s collection.
Throughout the class, you'll practice essential hand-stitching techniques like running, whip, and patch stitches while crafting your very own needle book. This is not only a great way to hone your skills but also an enjoyable experience in upcycling fabric, giving new life to scraps that would otherwise go to waste.
By the end of the class, you'll have a completed needle book and the confidence to continue your sewing journey, knowing you’ve created something beautiful, functional, and sustainable!
Material Fee
The materials fee for this class is $5 for the use of the materials and tools listed below and an additional $5 if you'd like to keep the sewing needle and printed instructions. This fee is separate from the ticket price and reimburses the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. It will be paid once, directly to the instructor, at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts payments in cash or through Venmo.
