About this Event

In this candid, conversational session, the founders of Memoir Nation, Brooke Warner and Grant Faulkner will share the seven things they wish every memoirist knew.

They'll talk about what it really takes to get a draft written, how to find the balance between living a scene and reflecting on what it meant, and how to write with what Vivan Gornick called “ruthless love.”

They'll get honest about vulnerability: how much to reveal, how to write about the people in your life, and how to keep going when the material gets hard.

And they'll pull back the curtain on publishing, from pitching and querying to rejection, today’s many paths to publication, and what it means to build a readership before and after your book is out.

Whether you’re just starting to remember your way into a story or you’re preparing to send your manuscript out into the world, you’ll leave with a clearer sense of the path ahead and some encouragement to keep walking it.
