About this Event

The Museum of Russian Art invites you to an extraordinary performance from the Seven-String Guitar Museum on Wheels, a project created by internationally acclaimed guitarist and scholar Oleg Timofeyev and his longtime collaborator Dan Caraway.

Part concert, part history, and part theater, this engaging program brings to life the rich tradition of the Russian seven-string guitar. Performing on seven historic instruments—some more than 200 years old—the duo blends music, storytelling, and semi-theatrical sketches to illuminate the fascinating cultural legacy of the seven-string guitar. The evening will feature works from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and England, paired with stories that make each instrument’s history come alive.

Educational, entertaining, and one-of-a-kind, this event transforms the stage at TMORA into a living museum of sound and story.

About the Artists

The Seven-String Guitar Museum on Wheels is a project created by guitarist and scholar Oleg Timofeyev, recognized as the world’s foremost expert on the history of the Russian seven-string guitar, together with his longtime collaborator, Iowa-based guitarist Dan Caraway.

The two musicians have performed together for more than two decades, appearing on internationally released recordings including Ispaniada (Hänssler Classics, 2008) and The Russian Guitar, Box Set (Brilliant Classics, 2016). In 2010, they founded the first quartet of Russian seven-string guitars, which toured nationally and in Europe and released the highly acclaimed album Tribute to the Mighty Handful (Delos Records, 2016).

The Seven-String Guitar Museum on Wheels showcases seven historical instruments, ranging in age from 100 to 250 years. Each guitar carries a unique story, brought to life through music, narration, and semi-theatrical sketches. The project is at once educational and entertaining, weaving together history, instrument-making, performance, and beautiful music.
