Seven Grand Whiskey Society: Glen Grant and Unicorns!

Hello whiskey friends!

There's only one thing that can rival Glen Grant's pedigree when it comes to classic Speyside single malt scotch - and that is its founders: John Grant and his brother, James Grant. The old logo of Glen Grant features the two brothers. John was an illicit malt distiller who went legit in the mid-19th century when he and James founded Glen Grant. James, a silent partner, was a colorful character as well. He actually led the last clan revolt in Scottish history... and then settled in as a lawyer or something once that failed.

James' son, however, took an interest in the distillery and took up the torch once his father and uncle passed. Nicknamed "The Major," James was a pioneer in the Scottish highlands. Not only was he the first person in the Highlands to own a car, he installed electricity in his distillery and innovated methods in distilling that other distilleries are still using today.

These days, Glen Grant is now owned by Campari (they are unsurprisingly the #1 single malt in Italy). Over the years, Campari has focused on the age statements and phased out old marks. But we're bringing back the old bottles with the old logos.

Kim Varela, District Manager for Campari here in Colorado, will be here to taste us on the following Glen Grant marks:

The 12 Year

The 15 Year

The 18 Year

and

The 21 Year

Then, we'll go into two discontinued marks:

The 16 Year

and

The Major's Reserve (a fairly unremarkable whisky when it was available, it is now such a highly sought-after whisky that we had to go to Australia just to find a bottle!)

PLUS of course it wouldn't be Whiskey Society without a welcome cocktail, featuring Glen Grant 12 Year!
