Session 1: Onboarding & Orienting New Board Members
Welcome to our first session of The National Bank of Indianapolis 2025 Nonprofit Training Series powered by Hedges. This session will focus on onboarding and orienting new board members! Join us at the Indianapolis Art Center for an interactive workshop sharing strategies to foster board engagement, accountability, and effectiveness.
Presenters:
Erin Hedges, President of Hedges
Since founding Hedges in 2002, Erin has become a trusted thought leader within the nonprofit community. She excels at strategic visioning, developing dynamic partnerships, and helping organizations plan for the future. She has continued to grow the company’s deep knowledge of the interconnected roles of Indiana nonprofits, philanthropic institutions, corporations, and government entities in solving complex social and economic issues.
Erin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Butler University, a Master of Arts in Philanthropic Studies from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. and has been trained by BoardSource. Erin has served as President of the Board of Directors for Dove House, the Alumni Board for Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, and Joy’s House, where she also serves as a Director’s Council member.
Kara Harrison, Director of Capacity Building Services at Hedges
Kara brings 14 years of nonprofit leadership experience to her role as Director of Capacity Building Services at Hedges. She applies her well-rounded experience as a nonprofit leader and a funder by overseeing capacity building services such as; strategic planning, vision, mission, values updates, board governance, and trainings for nonprofit organizations, funders, and corporations. Kara co-authored and co-facilitates Hedges’ Lead with Purpose board governance training series.
Prior to joining Hedges, she was a Community Investment and Grants Officer at a Community Foundation and an Executive Director at a mental health focused nonprofit. She holds an Applied Health Science degree from Indiana University, a Change Management Certificate from Cornell University, and has been trained by BoardSource. Kara is an alumnus of Leadership Hancock County and Community Leadership Academy for Southern Hancock Schools.
