Brazilian artist Sessa returns to Wavelength after a six year absence with his new album Pequena Vertigem de Amor. Translating to “Lil’ Love Vertigo,” his fourth album brings an intimate take to Brazilian pop music. Sessa emphasizes rhythms and textures buoyed by evocative arrangements and crooked funky inspirations from his childhood. Accompanied by Afro-Brazilian percussion and a backing choir, his concerts are the stuff of legend and we are delighted to have him back.
Sessa will be touring with US beach bums Kolumbo. While composer Frank LoCrasto is Texas-born and Brooklyn-based, Kolumbo embodies his tropical fantasy. Inspired by 1960s exotica and 1970s Brazilian fusion, the jazz-funk quartet take you to a sandy place far, far away.
Starting the night will be local music project ARTU, led by Arthur Bastos. Rooted in songcraft, rhythm, and texture, ARTU blends Brazilian musical influences with contemporary and experimental sounds and creates intimate compositions that draw on memory and movement.
Taking place in the magnificent Upper Hall at Wavelength @ St. Anne’s, our May monthly show will take you on a journey to Toronto’s buzzing Little Portugal neighbourhood for a truly immersive experience.
