About this Event

Space for this program is limited; registration required. If you are registering a group larger than two individuals, please contact Madelyn McCaully at [email protected] or 410-396-5494.

This program is recommended for individuals 55+; however, all are welcome.

Join us for Enoch Pratt Free Library’s free luncheon series, which offers patrons an afternoon of engaging conversations, performances, and activities. Pratt is excited to work in partnership with several community organizations to bring in a variety of dynamic presenters and performers, with rich academic and artistic backgrounds to lead these programs.

What’s on the menu:

In March, Pratt is excited to welcome Deyane Moses, Director, Programs & Partnerships, , for a presentation and conversation on everyday women who have impacted Baltimore's History. The AFRO American Newspapers has always documented women who made an impact in their communities, even when no one was watching. This session of Serving Up Wisdom uplifts everyday women whose names may not have made the headlines, but whose labor, care, and leadership helped shape the world around them. Through photographs, stories, and moments pulled from the AFRO Archives, we will rediscover how so-called “ordinary” women carried extraordinary strength and moved their communities forward in ways that still echo today.

Participants will also help guide the conversation by sharing the names of everyday women who have impacted their lives, then searching for them together in the digitized AFRO newspapers on ProQuest. This real-time exploration invites attendees to experience who gets recorded in history, who gets overlooked, and why these women’s stories deserve to be remembered, celebrated, and preserved.

After the presentation, participants will be invited to participate in other facilitated activities or our regular book discussion group led by Pratt Librarians from the Fiction Dept.

Lunch will be provided.

Please contact Madelyn McCaully at [email protected] or 410-396-5494, if you have questions about registration or to request accommodations.
