Serene Calligraphy Workshop
About this Event
Leaf and Quiet is proud to be offering a new workshop to the Missoula community – a beautiful and serene workshop in calligraphy.
This class will be led by Kei Nishino from Fukuoka, Japan, and it is a great honor to have her bring her expertise to our beautiful; and serene indoor gardens.
Kei began studying calligraphy at the age of four and is also a certified Assistant Instructor in the Urasenke tradition of Japanese tea ceremony.
Influenced by her grandfather, who was the head priest of a Zen temple, she grew up immersed in Japanese calligraphy, tea ceremony, and Zen culture from an early age.
In this 90-minute workshop, you will experience the art of Japanese calligraphy while learning how to use the brush, ink, and paper. After practicing traditional brush techniques, you will choose your favorite nature-inspired kanji—such as mountain (山), tree (木), lake (湖), flower (花), or sky (空)—and create your own calligraphy artwork to take home.
Whether you are interested in Japanese language, Japanese culture, or simply looking for a creative new experience, this class is for you. No experience is needed, and all materials are included.
