Join us for informative guided tours of Capitol Hill - let's enjoy and appreciate the history of the neighborhood together!
About this Event

We are offering four tours in September and all happen rain or shine. The Building Capitol Hill tour is only one block long, but the others are 1.5-2 miles of flat city street walking. Make sure to check the time - all but one are at 1pm. The tours all take 1.5-2 hours, depending on the group.

September 6 at 10:00am

SE Alleys Part II - Capitol Hill has many alleys that have been used for all sorts of purposes over the years - housing, businesses, stables and garages. These alleys are an interesting way to look at the L'Enfant plan and the ways our neighborhood has been zoned. CHRS has been giving a SE alley tour for years, now dubbed the "SE Alleys Part I". This is an entirely new tour with completely different stops and starts at 219 11th Street SE.

September 6 at 1:00pm

Notable People - This tour showcases the various famous, infamous and important people who have lived in the neighborhood, from the 1800s to the present. The tour starts at the park at Massachusetts Avenue and 9th Street NE.

September 7 at 1:00pm

One Block, Many Stories: Building Capitol Hill - Learn about historical and architectural trends in the neighborhood through a one-block-long deep-dive into the history of the buildings and former residents. Meet at 922 C Street SE, which is the corner of 10th and C Streets SE.

September 7 at 1:00pm

The Civil War and Before - This tour highlights some of the neighborhood's oldest history and buildings and how the area grew and changed. Learn about the groups of people who were the original inhabitants of the area near the Navy Yard. Meet at the corner of 8th and M Streets SE.

These tours are presented by volunteers from the Capitol Hill Restoration Society as a way to highlight our wonderful neighborhood. We want people to appreciate the rich history and the beautiful architecture so that we will continue to protect and preserve the area in and around the Historic District.
