Bath Drama would like to invite its members to a reading of 'The Importance of Being Earnest' by Oscar Wilde on Monday 1st September at 7pm (for a 7.15 pm start) at the Rec Pavilion.ABOUT THE PLAY:
It's 'The Importance of Being Earnest'! We all know 'The Importance of Being Earnest', right? What you might not know, though, is that Wilde's classic farcical comedy forms the backbone* of Tom Stoppard's 'Travesties', which is our next production (Rondo Theatre, 8th-11th October, see you there).
Every character in 'Travesties' has a parallel in 'Earnest', it largely borrows the plot and regularly pastiches and samples dialogue. It's brilliant and very funny and we're having the best time rehearsing it.
So, why not hold a reading of 'The Importance of Being Earnest' as we start counting down to 'Travesties'? And with a bit of luck we'll tempt members of the 'Travesties' cast along too, to read their characters' Wildean parallels for a bit. Such fun!
We'll get started as soon after 7.15 as possible - the pavilion will be open from 7, and there'll be tea & coffee available. Let us know if you're coming and if you'd like to read - [email protected]
*or maybe the heart, or the brain, or the central nervous system or something. Perhaps the spleen.
