or this month's meeting, we're bringing in another professor, this time to explore the literary art of poetry.Instead of waiting for inspiration, why not choose a form that will generate it? In this session, weโre going to talk about the serial poem, individual poems that fit into a larger structure or sequence. Weโll discuss some historical precedents, focusing on the tradition of the American long poem. Weโll also review some approaches to crafting a serial poem through form and content. When composing in sequences, the muse always knows where to find youโworking on your project. Our speaker for this meeting is Mike Barrett from Columbia, MO. He has a Ph.D. in Poetry from the University of Illinois-Chicago. As a founding member of the Chicago Poetry Ensemble, he helped establish the original Poetry Slam and spark the spoken word revolution. He has published numerous poems and essays on avant-garde poetics in magazines like Notre Dame Review, Ninth Letter, Gettysburg Review, and Leaping Clear. He is an award-winning educator who founded, and edited for 22 years, the Anvil & Lyre which published the work of MACC students.
