Please join us on Thursday, September 30 from 5-7PM for Durango Green Drinks. Hosts this month are Good Food Collective and La Plata Open Space Conservancy. La Plata Open Space Conservancy is Durango’s local land trust, whose mission is to permanently protect open lands that have significant agricultural, wildlife habitat, open space, recreational and/or historical or archaeological resources, for the benefit of the community and the general public. The Conservancy works with private and public landowners alike, most often through a legal mechanism known as a conservation easement, to permanently conserve irreplaceable lands and waters throughout 6 Southwest Colorado counties. Over its nearly 30 years of operations, the Conservancy’s work has resulted in conservation of nearly 26,000 acres of land and 49 miles of river, including 1,700 acres of public open space.
The Good Food Collective works together with partners ranging from farmers to food assistance providers to policy makers to -- together - build a resilient and just regional food system. Envision a reality where our small-scale farmers are practicing carbon-sinking/water-restoring ag practices that feed our community and that also allow them to earn a viable living; Envision a reality where everyone is able to access the fresh, healthy food that supports their health, well-being, and culture; Envision a reality where food is source of community building, leadership development, and empowerment. That's where we're headed! Join us in the journey! At this coming Green Drinks, we're eager to share about the amazing Systems Change work underway with our La Plata Food Equity Coalition, Farms to Food Assistance Food Hub, Gleaning Program...and of course, the 13th Annual Apple Days Festival slated for 10/9.
