Wheel Continuing
Thursdays, September 10 – October 29 | 6:30–9 PM
8 Sessions | Ages 14+
Ready to move beyond the basics and develop greater control and confidence on the Potters’ Wheel? This 8-week course is designed for participants who already know how to center clay and pull up walls and are ready to refine their technique, work with more challenging forms, and build a stronger understanding of the throwing process.
Over eight sessions, you’ll develop skills that will help you become a more capable and independent potter. You’ll have the opportunity to work on:
-Improving centering and control for more consistent results
-Refining wall thickness and height while maintaining even, balanced forms
-Throwing larger and more complex forms while learning how to manage clay effectively
-Throwing plates and wider forms while maintaining even walls and preventing warping
-Making and fitting lids with attention to measurements, fit, and function
-Refining trimming techniques to create balanced, finished forms and purposeful foot rings
-Developing greater consistency from one piece to the next
-Exploring surface and finishing choices through glazing and firing
Each class will combine instructor demonstrations with hands-on practice and time to experiment at the wheel. You’ll be encouraged to build on your existing skills, troubleshoot common challenges, and develop your own approach to throwing rather than simply following step-by-step projects.
Instructor Danica is a full-time professional potter and Nelson School of Art graduate whose work is sold at stores and markets throughout BC. An experienced and approachable teacher, Danica has a talent for breaking down techniques into clear, accessible demonstrations. Her light and personable teaching style creates a supportive environment where you can challenge yourself, ask questions, and gain confidence at the wheel.
