Agenda
8:30 am – Arrival and Setup
- Participants check in and receive their department roles
- Rogue players are discreetly assigned and briefed
- Tent cards and handouts distributed
9:00 am – Breach Response Foundations
- Instructor-led training session
- Topics include breach psychology, department roles, rogue influence, communication dynamics, and escalation risks
- Participants are introduced to the fictional company and its operating environment
10:00 am – Scenario Launch
- A real-world inspired breach announcement is delivered
- Teams receive initial logs and artifacts, including a phishing email and network alerts
- The crisis begins
10:30 am – Simulation: Phases 1 and 2
- Teams submit decisions to the Game Master
- Twist events are introduced via dice rolls
- Rogue actors begin to subtly influence outcomes
- Scoring begins based on legal, trust, operations, and morale categories
12:00 pm – Lunch Break
1:00 pm – Simulation: Phases 3 and 4
- Breach deepens with new developments, media scrutiny, and possible regulator involvement
- Departments face internal tension, conflicting priorities, and unpredictable events
- Additional logs and discoveries are released
- Rogue roles escalate their interference
3:00 pm – Final Moves and Scoring
- Teams submit final statements and coordinated actions
- The Game Master scores each team’s performance using a detailed Crisis Tracker
- Rogue effectiveness is factored into the outcome
4:00 pm – Debrief and Rogue Reveal
- Final scores are revealed and ranked
- Rogue identities are exposed
- Participants engage in structured debriefing and discussion
- Lessons are drawn around leadership under pressure, organizational dysfunction, and effective breach response

Abstract:
An Immersive Post-Breach Simulation Workshop
When a breach hits your organization, it’s not the technology that makes or breaks your response—it’s the humans in the room.
Aftermath: ORYX is an immersive, instructor-led simulation that places participants inside a multinational organization reeling from a major data breach. A phishing email has triggered the compromise of sensitive financial, client, and employee data. What happens next is up to you—and your team.
This is not a lecture. This is a live crisis.
Each participant is assigned to a department — Public Relations, Legal, Security, Human Resources, or Executive Leadership. Some will receive secret rogue roles working against the team. Throughout the day, teams will respond to unfolding events, face unexpected twists, and be scored on how well they maintain legal, operational, reputational, and internal stability.
Led by renowned human behavior and social engineering expert Christopher Hadnagy, this workshop trains participants to communicate, coordinate, and lead under pressure.
Participants will learn to:
- Communicate clearly across departments under stress
- Recognize and respond to rogue influences and misinformation
- Coordinate response strategy across legal, technical, and human priorities
- Experience firsthand how small missteps escalate into major damage
- Debrief the incident using metrics of trust, risk, morale, and containment
- Build a repeatable, human-centric breach response framework

Bio:
Chris Hadnagy is the author of five books on social engineering, he created the world’s first scientific framework for social engineering and pioneered the path for social engineering to become an industry.
He is the first professor of social engineering at the University of Arizona. He has taught around the globe and spoken at many events including RSA, Black Hat, The Pentagon, as well as many others.
He started the Innocent Lives Foundation to use his skills to help law enforcement track and stop people who traffic children and create child abuse material.
