About this Event

A special musical and spiritual journey into the world of Sephardic Piyyutim — sacred Jewish poetry and prayer songs from the communities of Spain, North Africa, and the Middle East with Rabbi Tsipi Gabai and percussionist Katja Cooper

Through beautiful melodies, stories, and participation, Rabbi Gabai will introduce several beloved Piyyutim traditionally sung during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Participants will have the opportunity not only to hear about these ancient poems, but also to learn and sing some of the melodies together.

Piyyutim are much more than beautiful songs. They carry the voices, hopes, longing, faith, and spiritual creativity of Jewish communities across generations. Their melodies and poetry bring together prayer, biblical imagery, Jewish history, and personal emotion, creating a deeply moving experience of the High Holidays.
