Join us for the September Triad Housing Hangout on Wednesday, September 30, from 1:00–2:00 PM at the Forsyth County Central Library.
This month’s Hangout will focus on eviction prevention, diversion, mediation, and tenant support: what the eviction landscape looks like across the Piedmont Triad today, what resources are available to help residents remain housed, and where stronger regional coordination is still needed.
Eviction is more than a legal proceeding. It is a housing stability issue, an economic mobility issue, a family and community well-being issue, and, for many households, the point at which an already difficult housing situation becomes a crisis.
Panelists will help demystify the eviction process in North Carolina, describe programs operating in Forsyth and Guilford counties, explain when and how tenants and landlords can seek assistance, and discuss opportunities to better connect residents with help before displacement occurs.
The discussion will also compare different approaches emerging across the Triad including eviction mediation, right-to-counsel, diversion networks, legal assistance, tenant advocacy, and nonprofit responses to displacement and consider what we can learn from efforts already underway.

Why This Conversation Matters
An eviction can have consequences that extend far beyond the loss of a home. Displacement can interrupt employment, education, health care, transportation, family stability, and connections to community. Once an eviction filing occurs, residents may also face greater difficulty securing their next home.
Across the Triad, promising programs already exist but they do not operate uniformly across jurisdictions. Guilford County partners can provide insight into a functioning mediation and diversion approach, while Winston-Salem and Forsyth County organizations can speak to ongoing diversion efforts, unmet needs, and the realities experienced by nonprofits helping displaced residents.

Networking with a cross-sector mix of housing professionals, advocates, service providers, nonprofit leaders, local government staff, legal-service organizations, landlords and property managers, funders, researchers, and community members.
Brief presentations from organizations working directly on eviction prevention and response, including mediation, legal assistance, tenant advocacy, community support, and local-government initiatives.
Facilitated discussion examining what is working, what remains difficult, and how the Triad can intervene earlier and more effectively when households are at risk of eviction.
Audience Q&A and open dialogue focused on practical information, referrals, collaboration, and opportunities to strengthen the regional eviction-prevention system.
The planned format includes brief organizational presentations followed by facilitated conversation and audience Q&A.
Regional focus open to anyone working in or interested in housing issues from Guilford, Forsyth, Alamance, Davidson, Davie, Stokes, Randolph, Rockingham, and beyond.

Triad Housing Hangout
The Triad Housing Hangout is a practical and solutions-oriented monthly gathering that brings together housing professionals, advocates, developers, local officials, funders, researchers, service providers, community organizations, and residents from across the Piedmont Triad to stay connected, share what is working, and learn from one another.
The series creates an ongoing “community conversation” space where local and regional leaders can surface timely housing challenges, highlight promising initiatives, connect people with useful resources, and translate information into action.
Each Hangout features a short, focused presentation or panel—often spotlighting a local initiative, policy development, emerging challenge, or program opportunity—followed by open discussion, audience Q&A, and networking.
