On Thanksgiving Weekend, bring your family to the National Constitution Center for an accessible learning experience!
Visitors with sensory-processing challenges can experience the museum in a secure and comfortable environment that includes modified programming and emotionally safe spaces with sensory objects, comfortable seating, and cool blue lighting.
For our November Sensory Friendly Day, we're hosting a Beaded Adornments Workshop with artist Tchin.
Beadwork is both beautiful and meaningful—it can be simply decorative, but also used to communicate and document knowledge. Beads were traditionally made of found materials like stones and quills, and in the 1600s, glass beads were incorporated because of European trade. Beadwork is one of the most beautiful Indigenous art forms, and participants will be able to experience this by making either a beaded necklace, bracelet, or earrings. Enjoyed by ages 5+.
Tchin (pronounced 'chin) is a nationally known, multi-award winning artist. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M. and graduated from Rhode Island School of Design. Tchin is an accomplished musician, flutemaker, folklorist, jewelry designer, educator, author, painter, and clothing designer.
The National Constitution Center is a proud partner of Art-Reach, a Philadelphia nonprofit organization that creates connections between the disability community and the cultural arts. Art-Reach has provided inclusion and accessibility trainings to museum staff, collaborated on programming, and consulted on environmental adjustments serve our community. The NCC is also a proud participant of Art-Reach’s ACCESS Admission Program, a community initiative developed to make arts and cultural spaces more accessible and affordable by providing $2 admission to over 80 cultural sites throughout Greater Philadelphia and Delaware for individuals receiving public assistance for food or medical benefits.
