The legal duties of local authorities and SENDCOs, along with the EHCP process, will be discussed in detail. Participants will learn about their own responsibilities under the law and the legal rights of parents and students.

Info: This session focuses on the EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan) process, from the initial request for an EHC needs assessment to the creation of an effective and compliant EHCP. Key elements like Section B (special educational needs), Section F (specific provision requirements), and Section I (naming a school) will be explored in detail, alongside annual reviews and re-assessments. Attendees will leave with practical tips on improving the quality of EHCPs in their settings.

Info: The final session tackles the legal framework for school funding as it relates to SEND. We will address common misconceptions and challenges in funding allocation, as well as strategies for challenging inappropriate funding decisions. Attendees will learn legal and non-legal ways to advocate for proper funding and provision, particularly in cases where a local authority has been incorrectly named in an EHCP.
