About this Event
Join Missouri State Parks staff for a trip to the Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site. Participants will begin their trip at the Watkins Mill visitor center and museum, followed by a guided tour of the nineteenth-century Watkins Family home and Victorian garden. Guests will be provided with boxed lunches, then partake in a hands-on archery and traditional ragdoll making activity.
A bus will depart from the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center (4750 Troost Ave., KCMO) at 8:30 a.m. and return at 3:15 p.m. Lunch and transportation will be provided.
FREE for seniors who are young at heart. Reservations are required and space is limited, so sign up today! Priority will be given to Seniors to Parks newcomers.
Contact Cecelia Brueggemann at [email protected] or (816) 764-8678 to register for the event by Friday, May 9th.
Accessibility Information: To reach the visitor center there is a paved, sloped parking lot and either a set of stairs or railed ramp. From the visitor center to the Watkins cemetery, visitors follow a loosely packed, gravel road and ascend six stone steps. From the cemetery, guests either cross a large grassy lawn, or continue on the gravel path to a grassy lawn with a 5% slope. To enter the house, there is a total of three steps. A railed stairway goes to the bedrooms on the east side of the second floor, while there is a very narrow, steep stairway with no railing leading to the bedrooms on the west side of the second floor. The back porch has a railed ramp to the back entrance.
